New Hope was first called "Coryell's Ferry," after the owner of the ferry business. The current name came into use following a fire in 1790 that destroyed several mills in the area; their reconstruction was considered a "new hope." The night prior to George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River, he is said to have lodged in New Hope. He destroyed the ferry so the British could not follow him, and after the battles of Trenton and Princeton, when British troops were sweeping the area for the American forces, there was no response when they rang for the ferry. The British assumed the town was sympathetic to the Colonial forces and shelled the town.
We encourage you to learn all about the history, in addition to the many reasons to work and live here by visiting The Chamber of New Hope Webpage here.

The pictures above are from areas surrounding New Hope. The one on top features the reimagining of an existing space. The space that once housed the kitchen for the stone farmhouse has been transformed into a comfortable sitting room complete with fireplace. And the one immediately above is the relocated kitchen of the same project. Filled with light, this kitchen features custom made cabinetry, Black walnut island countertop and true random width custom flooring made by local artisans.
The image that follows is also a project that is one with the same appeal for New Hope. Showing only part of a large renovation and addition, the original stone structure required complete replacement of everything except the stone walls.
You need someone with a lot of experience to make all aspects of a Historic Renovation come out perfect. In this next project you will see an interior image of a sitting room in yet another historic home renovation. Custom-built cabinetry flank the gas log fireplace allowing click-of-a-button fireplace comfort. The floor is true random width wide plank quarter-sawn oak hand-planed by Ambrose Randa.
In the picture that follows, you will find another example of historic restorations and renovations. Very typical of the area, this stone house dates to about 1860 and was in very poor condition. A large multi-room addition was added to the home. The existing spaces were reconfigured to accommodate the family. The wrap around porch was restored and extended.
